Imperial Horse Chamfron Object
Throughout history, protective head armor was created for horses used in warfare. These pieces, designed to cover the forehead and nasal area, served not only as defense equipment but also as symbols of prestige - enhancing magnificence during state ceremonies and military processions.
This object is inspired by a gilded horse chamfron dated to the 17th century. The decorative motifs reinterpret patterns from a 16th-century Ottoman horse chamfron exhibited at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, as well as hatayi and floral ornaments seen on a horse chamfron in the Hermitage Museum in Russia.
