The Piri Reis World Map, compiled by integrating the accurate and inaccurate information from twenty maps, including Christopher Columbus's now lost map, is a valuable historical document containing the geographical knowledge of 16th-century European and Muslim seafarers. Drawn in 1513 by the Ottoman admiral Piri Reis, this first world map is one of the oldest maps showing the American continent. The map, torn lengthwise from the right side, shows the western coasts of Europe and Africa and the eastern coast of South America. The original map, drawn on deerskin with various colors, pictures, and writings, measures 90x65 cm. The original map is currently in Topkapi Palace.
