The effort to measure time according to the sun’s position and to establish a shared frame of reference for timekeeping led to the creation of sundials. In the commonly used horizontal sundial, the shadow cast by a vertically positioned rod falls onto a dial surface marked with hour lines. As the sun moves across the sky, the shadow tip shifts, aligning with different hour markings throughout the day.

First widely used from the Hellenistic period onward, sundials continued to play an important role in daily life across successive civilizations. They were typically placed in locations that received sunlight throughout the day—often in public gathering spaces, where people could easily access them.

On the Decorative Sundial, the moving shadow can be observed directly, echoing the timeless relationship between the sun and timekeeping.

All raised relief motifs on the Decorative Sundial are meticulously hand-decorated using 24-carat gold, showcasing refined artisanal craftsmanship.
