An ewer (ibrik) is a lidded, handled vessel with a slender neck and wide body, traditionally used for holding liquids such as water or sherbet. In Ottoman culture, ewers were used not only for washing hands and face, but also in various forms for serving beverages—particularly in palace kitchens and elite residences.

The Drop-Shaped Ewer was designed in inspiration of a tutya rosewater sprinkler (gülabdan) reflecting the Ottoman style of the late 17th century to the early 18th century, preserved in the collection of Topkapı Palace.

Its body is adorned with scalloped, lobed medallions (şemse) and decorated with pomegranate-bearing cypress motifs, alongside stylized flowers and leaves, echoing the refined decorative language of Ottoman court art.

In Islamic metal arts, not only precious metals such as gold and silver, but also iron, copper, lead, nickel, tin, and their alloys were widely used. Tutya is a zinc-containing material that held an important place within this tradition.

The Drop-Shaped Ewer is crafted from handmade glass, and all raised relief motifs are meticulously hand-decorated using 24-carat gold, platinum, and glass paints, showcasing exceptional artisanal craftsmanship.
