Among the most significant artistic traditions proving how people of different languages and cultures influenced one another in ancient Anatolia is glyptic art—the art of seals and seal impressions.
As trade expanded and intercultural contact increased, the need for seals emerged, with the earliest examples appearing approximately 9,000 years ago. The first seals were made of clay and terracotta, but over time they were produced from many other materials including various types of stone (common, semi-precious, and precious), as well as metal, bone, and similar substances.
Beyond their practical function, seals are also valuable historical documents. Through their carved imagery and inscriptions, they provide essential insight into the religious beliefs, social and cultural life, and the technical sophistication of the civilizations they represent.
The Sealed Vase is decorated with a cylinder seal impression in an ancient Anatolian style. The impression features deities, symbolic elements associated with them, and animal figures, reflecting the narrative language of early Near Eastern iconography.
Crafted from handmade glass, the Sealed Vase features raised relief patterns entirely hand-decorated using gold and antique-effect paints. The alloy metal elements are finished with a yellow-toned coating, completing the piece with a refined historical character.
