The patterns of the Illumination of Nur Gondola are stylized interpretations inspired by the gilded manuscript ornamentation (tezhip) of a Persian Shahnameh of Ferdowsi, prepared in the name of Sultan Ali Mirza of the Gilan Shahs during the Timurid period, and exhibited at the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts (Türk ve İslam Eserleri Müzesi).

Dated to 1475–1500, this Persian masterpiece was authored by Abu’l-Qasim Ferdowsi. The Shahnameh was created in two volumes and includes a rich selection of miniatures, reflecting the refined visual culture of classical manuscript tradition.

Crafted from handmade glass, the Illumination of Nur Gondola features raised relief patterns that are meticulously hand-decorated using 24-carat gold gilding and glass paints, showcasing exceptional artisanal mastery.

The Shahnameh is a monumental epic work known for narrating historical events and the lives of significant rulers of its time, making it one of the most important masterpieces of Persian literary heritage.
