One of the courtyards within Topkapı Palace, the Karaağalar Courtyard, takes its name from the “Karaağalar”—the palace guards whose primary duty was to stand watch at the gates of the Harem, control all entrances and exits, and prevent anyone from entering from outside.

It is known that the Sultan would pass through this courtyard on horseback, following the long stone pathway running through its center. The walls on both sides of this path were richly adorned with exquisite Ottoman tilework.

The patterns featured on the Harem Bowl were created in inspiration of these historic tile motifs. Crafted from handmade turquoise-blue glass, the bowl is entirely hand-decorated using 24-carat gold gilding and glass paints, reflecting the elegance of Ottoman palace artistry through refined craftsmanship.
