The Mor Gabriel Monastery is the oldest surviving Syriac Orthodox monastery in the world. Located in Mardin, on the Tur Abdin Plateau known as the ancestral homeland of the Syriac community, the monastery has stood for centuries as a remarkable symbol of faith and heritage.

Its Byzantine-era mosaics, domes, and doors were constructed from the distinctive cut stone of Midyat. The monastery walls and entrances also display some of the finest examples of regional stone carving. The church ceiling mosaics feature gold-toned details and grapevine motifs, reflecting the vineyards long present throughout the region.

This candleholder is decorated in inspiration of the exceptional stone carvings of the Mor Gabriel Church. In 2021, Mor Gabriel Monastery became one of the nine churches and monasteries in Tur Abdin included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.

Crafted from handmade amber glass, the candleholder features raised relief motifs meticulously hand-decorated using 24-carat gold and glass paints, presented with exceptional artisanal craftsmanship.
