Firmans—documents written in distinctive calligraphic styles—were official decrees that recorded the will and command of the Sultan. Yet they were never merely administrative papers. Through folk songs, poetry, and timeless verses about love that refuses to obey orders, firmans became woven into cultural memory. “A command may be the Sultan’s,” as the saying goes, “yet the heart listens to no instruction.” And when the Sultan’s decree became absolute, it could even ignite rebellion—echoing across mountains and time.

Carrying such weight of meaning, firmans—like love letters—needed protection, transport, and safe delivery. This gave rise to ferman boxes: authentic document cases and private chests. With their form, materials, seals, and locks, they became symbols of the personal, confidential, and sacred.

Revived today with an outer decoration inspired by a 16th-century tile pattern, the Ferman Box reimagines this historical object for contemporary life, leaving its new purpose to the taste and imagination of its owner.

Crafted from handmade glass, the piece features raised relief motifs meticulously hand-decorated using gold gilding and glass paints, presented with exceptional hand craftsmanship.
