The Ancient City of Patara was one of the six most important cities of the Lycian League and served as its capital. As the only point in the Xanthos Valley with direct access to the sea, Patara maintained its strategic importance throughout every era. Archaeological excavations have confirmed through tangible evidence that the city already existed in the 8th century BC.

It is believed that Roman Emperor Nero commissioned two lighthouses in Patara nearly 2,000 years ago, and that these structures were later destroyed by a major tsunami. Thanks to extensive excavation and research, all of the building stones of the Patara Lighthouse have now been uncovered and today await restoration.

Historical sources indicate that the lighthouse was built by Emperor Nero in AD 64/65. The Ancient Cities of the Lycian Civilization were included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2009.

Crafted from handmade deep-blue glass, the Patara Lighthouse features raised relief motifs meticulously hand-decorated using platinum and antique-effect paints, showcasing exceptional artisanal craftsmanship.
